JON COLGRAVE

Jon Colgrave is a Jazz and Soul singer/songwriter from Sheffield in the U.K. He has been writing and producing songs, performing Jazz and soul music for many years and his wealth of experience in performing live has gained him a big following. His amazing voice captivates his audience. Jon Colgrave is currently recording an album of original material and Jazz standards to be released digitally on 56th street records later this year. The album will be Jazz/soul flavoured with a commercial edge.

Jon also performs in his own quartet called 'The Jon Colgrave Quartet' where he performs his own original compositions including 'Love For One Night', 'I Shouldn't Love You', 'He Stole Your Heart' and 'A Memory' along with jazz standards including 'The More I See You', 'You Don't Know Me', 'I've Got You Under My Skin' and 'Come Rain Or Come Shine'. Jon also performs in a quintet which inlcudes piano, double bass, drums and either lead guitar or sax or with a pianist for a more intimate setting and a trio which includes piano and double bass.

RESIDENCY - THE IVORY SHEFFIELD

Jon Colgrave will start a weekly residency at The Ivory Bar in Sheffield, every tuesday starting 12th February at 8pm. Accompanied by Jazz pianist Wendy Kirkland it will be a relaxed affair with Jon singing along to just a piano. He will perform many of his favourite standards including 'Misty', 'The More I See You', 'Body And Soul' and many more.

Jon Colgrave has been writing and recording his own music along with recording Jazz and Big Band standards for over 15 years. In the earlier years of his career he experimented with different types of music and a select few of his compositions are available to listen to via this website. Songs like 'He Stole Your Heart' (playing now), 'Waiting', 'I Shouldn't Love You', 'On Your Own (Your Ghosts)' and 'A Memory' are just a select few of Jon's original compositions available to listen to via Sound click, the first internet music charts. JON COLGRAVE"S BIOGRAPHY

Jon Colgrave was born on the 16th November 1973 in Sheffield UK. Born into a musical family (his uncle, Stan Vickers was a successful musician in his own right playing Sax, Flute and Clarinet in big bands such as The Sid Dean Band and The Kenny Mckintosh Band, playing for big name stars like Shirley Bassey and Lena Martell). It was definately the influence of his family that got Jon into tho whole Jazz and Big Band scene. He was constantly played all the great singers and musicians of the past. His family members would play them endlessly. Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett (being Jon's favourite), Sarah Vaughan, Shirley Bassey, George Benson, Count Basie, Elvis Presley, Lena Horne were among the many greats Jon was influenced by.

Jon Started singing in his early teens after playing lead roles in school musicals and soon developed a promising vocal talent. At 18 he started to sing professionally at social clubs and pubs under the name of Jonathon Ashley but it wasn't long before he was writing and recording in a studio environment. He answered an advert for a professional singer and got the job. He was introduced to previously signed EMI musician and producer Carl Stipetic at Inner City Studios, Bradford and began writing and recording there. Jon landed on his feet by meeting Carl Stipetic. Carl is a world class musician, playing Piano, Guitar, Drums and Bass Guitar, so writing and recording Jazz became second nature to Jon and Carl. Many top quality produced songs were written including 'Love For One Night', 'Waiting', 'Real Love', 'A Memory', 'I shouldn't Love You' and 'He Stole Your Heart' playing on this website to name a few. The guitar and Piano on all tracks played by Stipetic is easilly recognisable as world class. In 1998 the 'Insane E.P. was recorded under the name of 'Jonathon Ashley' and sold onto his fanbase. Classic standards 'Misty' and 'Tenderly' are featured on this E.P. The self penned track 'Insane' features The Haggis Horns, who arranged and played a world class horn section along with Jason Rae (husband of Corinne Baily Rae) who plays the alto sax Solo.

In the year 2000, Jon dropped his stage name and decided to use his own name which resulted in one of his own compositions 'One Day' being remixed and released on a white label. The Juice Crew and Soul City People from Manchester worked their magic. It had a great response from the club scene all over the world and was played in clubs as far as Germany and Hong Kong.

Jon has carried on writing and recording over the years and has developed his talents into becoming a successful live vocal artist performing Jazz and Big Band standards. He never returned to his stage name. With age and maturity he realised hiding behind a different persona wasn't for the best. There will probably be many people all over the UK who remember him as 'Jonathon Ashley'.

Over the years Jon has gained a huge following performing Jazz and Big Band standards and its those fans who drive him to carry on living his dream.

One Day 12"

In 2001 the Jon Colgrave track 'One Day' was remixed for the clubs. The Juice Crew and The Soul City People from Manchester remixed the track and it was released on a white label. The 12" did extremely well and was played in Germany, Hong Kong and charted on many top London night club charts along with many night clubs around the UK.
